Matching the dress to your face shape

In order to ensure the ideal look and fit, one of the ways is to try and match the dress to your face shape.  This will make the task of choosing a dress easier.  By finding out what your face shape is will help you to match it to the ideal dress that flatters and accentuates all of your good features while hiding whatever you might consider a flaw. When your face shape and your neckline match correctly, you will be able to narrow down your choices of dresses.

Firstly, take a look at your face in the mirror to decide which shape your face is. Each face shape has a certain or a few types of necklines that will enhance the shape of your face.

Round face

For a round face, you would need a dress with a neckline that elongates or stretches your face. Some good options would be V-neck, sweetheart or scoop neckline. Do avoid high neck dresses or big statement necklace as they tend to hide the neck and therefore make your face looks even rounder.

Triangle face

A triangle face matches well with necklines that can add curves to your face. Look for scoop necks, sweetheart necklines and cowl necks.

Heart Shape face

A heart shaped face works well with necklines that draw a horizontal line near the neck.  A high or wide neckline will make your face look wider.

Square face

A square face shape is one that has a square forehead, cheekbones and jawline with the same width. The ideal prom dress should have a vertical shape such as scoop necks, cowl neck or bateau.

Oblong face

For oblong face, you would need a prom dress with neckline that would make your face look wider and more oval. Go for round, wide or cowl neck. What you should avoid are dresses with V-necks.

Oval face

If you have an oval face, you are lucky with what it is considered to be the ideal face shape.  The forehead is wider than the chin, the cheekbones are slightly prominent and the face delicately narrows towards the chin. For this face shape, you can choose whatever necklines you wish.
